The board is made up of parents who have been elected in the triennial elections. Other trustees may have been co-opted on to the Board for their specialist skills or elected to the Board by selection due to a Trustee resigning. The Ashgrove Board of Trustees is normally made up of six parent trustees and two school representative trustees, one being the Principal and the other a staff representative. A Board Secretary also collates meeting agendas and minutes the Board meetings.
Parent trustees are delegated portfolios of Property, Treasurer, Health & Safety and Human Resources and take responsibility for the overall Governance of the School. The Board sets and reviews policies which guide the Principal and staff in developing procedures for the development of our children and running of the school.
The next Board triennial election for three positions is to be late 2017. If you are interested in becoming a Trustee, feel free to contact the Chairperson or Principal and join us at one of our monthly meetings.
A Board key focus for this year is the planning for the Block 1 development into a new Modern Learning Environment (MLE) which complements our drive to Modern Learning Practise (MLP). With the completion of the Mahuri Block the benefits of MLE / MLP is apparent with collaborative learning and inquiry developing our students' skills to succeed.
The Boards other objectives include:
- Completion of the Netball Court
- School fencing
- Hall recladding
- Introduction of the new school uniform
- Completion of Stage 1 of the new playground
The Board is thankful for the hard work the School PTA does to raise funds for the school, be it Restyle Me, second hand uniform sales, Santa's Grotto and the Christmas Gala. Without the huge contribution of the School PTA items such as the new playground would be that much harder to fund.
The Board welcomes the Allenvale School Satellite Unit to Ashgrove School and look to both of our schools learning from each other and our students growing together.
Our gratitude goes to our staff who work tirelessly throughout the year for our children. Their ongoing development and sharing of ideas models the values of our school.
If you are a parent of a prospective student I welcome you to visit our school to see what Ashgrove has to offer.
